The
Chrysalis String Orchestra was established in September, 2002 by Nicolette Solomon
as the “beginning orchestra” for the Suzuki Institute of Dallas.
It accommodates string students aged 5 through 10 years old. This training orchestra’s
role is to encourage excellence in reading and ensemble playing.
The name of the orchestra was derived from the word for one of the life stages
of a butterfly and was felt to be singularly appropriate for this budding group
of future orchestral musicians.
Chrysalis musicians are enthusiastic about their orchestral program, disciplined
in their approach to their preparation, rehearsing and performances . They enjoy
the social aspect of the activity enormously. The Chrysalis Orchestra is currently
made up of 19 musicians, including three violists and four cellists.
